So I went to the office this morning ready for a long day at the office when my supervisor asked if I wanted to go out for dinner to meet with some ladies, and potential partners from Wellington. The catch is we would have to leave at 2:30 in the afternoon and I couldn't get a full ride home (due to the distances where everyone lives). How could I pass up an opportunity to network with possible partners.
I decided to go and just catch the bus afterwards. So we left and it took us around two and a half hours to actually get there, after picking up another coworker.
It was a great experience meeting these new ladies. They greeted me in a way that I have never done before: a kiss on the cheek. We then talked about many different topics, including the New Zealand Coalition to End Homelessness. We talked about homelessness in New Zealand and I learned a lot. The one lady was on a Community Health Board in Wellington and used to run a social service organized to help individuals who were homeless. She was able to answer a lot of my questions and clarify other statements.
Overall, it was a great night full of teaching and networking. I was able to hand out my card and gain allies for my thesis for when I am in Wellington.
